President's Message

Dr. Ernst Tomic

We held our first meetings in our new venue, the Alexis I. du Pont Middle School's (AIMS) cafeteria and in its auditorium. These facilities proved to be more than adequate for our club's needs; however, we must adapt our operations to our new home and its landlord. The decrease in rental cost from $295 to $95 per month warrants such compromises and adaptations, all of which are minor. For instance, we need to resolve whether to use the school's screen or our own; precisely where, behind the stage, we should place our storage cabinet; which one of the switches we should best use to operate the lights in the auditorium (there is one on the stage, another at the foot of the steps, behind the EXIT door, another one in the projection booth and yet another one at the entrance to the auditorium, which, alas, requires an access key for which we must make special arrangements). Our involuntary departure from the Academy of Medicine and our move to AIMS may well prove to be a boon for our club!

The unfortunate convergence of several problems, most of which were unrelated to the new facility gave us a rocky start in the auditorium on May 1st. However, I am confident that our next meeting there will proceed without significant problems.

Since this is my concluding presidential message, I wish to thank all of you, too many to mention by name, who, during my tenure, have contributed to our club's photographic and social activities. Together, in the past two eventful years, we increased the joys of photography for all of our members, we faced and met challenges to the operation of the club, we widened our horizon and we embraced the changes that will keep our club vital into the 21st century.

I thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve; now I shall take, what I know is my well deserved sabbatical. My primary objective during the coming year will be to make photographs again!

Ernst A. Tomic
